Investigational cancer drugs unintentionally may result in tumor growth

School of Medicine researchers studying how cancer spreads into bone have made a surprising discovery that suggests several investigational anti-cancer therapies just entering the drug-development pipeline may not have the desired effect. The study indicates that the drugs inadvertently may promote cancer.

Air Force salutes Brown School students

Amanda Moore McBride, PhD (right), associate dean of the Brown School, was on hand Nov. 11 to congratulate Brown School students Michelle Gordon and Jenneva Barrett (not pictured) on receiving commissions in the U.S. Air Force as part of the Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program. The Brown School was the only program with two recipients — only 11 awards were given nationwide.

Che Malambo comes to Edison this weekend

Like a duel set to music, the malambo is hard and fast, explosive and competitive, as forceful and graceful as the Argentine cowboys — the legendary gauchos — who have been performing it since the 1600s. On Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22 and 23, Edison Theatre will welcome Che Malambo to St. Louis as part of the group’s first North American tour.

WUSTL football gains bid to NCAA Division III championship

The WUSTL football team has received a bid to the 2013 NCAA Division III football championship. WUSTL will make its first NCAA appearance since 1999 and second all-time. The Bears play at Franklin College Saturday, Nov. 23.

A partnership between Olin Business School and the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, Israel, will give undergraduates from any American college or university a firsthand look this summer at the burgeoning Israeli startup scene. Students have until Feb. 15 to sign up.
